Many people recognize Taylor Sheridan as the driving force behind the hit TV series Yellowstone. However, the Hollywood star is also the mastermind behind several other beloved titles.

Taylor Sheridan’s movies and TV shows have made lasting impressions in the film industry. Though he first started as an actor, Sheridan mainly works as a writer, producer, creator, and director these days.

Sheridan began his acting career in 1995 starring in an episode of Walker Texas Ranger. His most notable acting roles include Veronica Mars and Sons of Anarchy. He currently stars as horse trainer Travis Wheatly in his show Yellowstone.

Sheridan got his big breakthrough as a writer, director, and producer with Yellowstone. Since the show’s success, Sheridan has signed a deal with Paramount+ to create additional content for the streaming service through 2028.

Yellowstone

As the mastermind behind Yellowstone, Sheridan is the writer, director, producer, and co-creator of the hit show. The show is Sheridan’s most popular to date, as it is even receiving multiple spinoffs.

Yellowstone follows the Dutton family who owns Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, the largest cattle ranch in Montana.

The Duttons clash with land developers as they fight to keep every acre of their beloved ranch. Yellowstone premiered in 2018 and the fifth season is set to come out in late 2022.

The Last Cowboy

The Last Cowboy is a reality series produced and created by Sheridan. The show follows a group of cowboys as they compete for the lavish prize of $ 1 million at the “Run for a Million,” a coveted reining competition. The Last Cowboy came out in 2019 and there are two seasons.

Mayor of Kingstown

Sheridan serves as the writer, director, producer, and creator of the show Mayor of Kingstown. The show premiered in 2021 and was renewed for a second season in February 2022.

Mayor of Kingstown follows the powerful McLusky family, power brokers living in Kingstown, Michigan. In Kingstown, the only business that thrives is the business of incarceration. When Mike McLusky takes over as mayor, he does whatever it takes to get the results he wants.

1883

Sheridan is the writer, director, producer, and creator of 1883, a prequel to Yellowstone. The show premiered in 2021 and consisted of 10 episodes.

1883 follows the Dutton family as they flee poverty in Tennesse in hopes of starting a new life. The family joins a European immigrant wagon train in Texas that journeys across the West.

The Duttons reach their final destination in Montana, establishing what becomes the iconic Yellowstone Dutton Ranch.

Vile

Sheridan made his directing debut with the 2011 film Vile. The horror film follows ten kidnapped people who must escape a locked room within 22 hours. In order to win their freedom, they must endure excruciating pain.

Sicario

Sheridan’s first credit for writing was the 2015 film Sicario. The film follows a disciplined FBI agent who is enlisted by the government to take down the leader of a powerful and ruthless Mexican drug cartel.

The film received lots of praise and was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015. It also received numerous nominations including Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Sound Editing at the 88th Academy Awards.

Hell or High Water

Sheridan wrote the 2016 film Hell or High Water. The neo-Western action-thriller follows two brothers as they commit a series of bank robberies in hopes to save their ranch while being pursued by Texas Rangers.

The film premiered at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section. It received numerous nominations including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing at the 89th Academy Awards.

The American Film Institute also selected the movie as one of its ten “Movies of the Year” in 2016.

Wind River

The 2017 neo-Western murder mystery, Wind River, was directed and written by Sheridan. It follows a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service tracker and an FBI agent who work together to solve a murder on the Wind River Indian Reservation.

After premiering at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, the film received high praise. It went on to win the Un Certain Regard for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival and was selected as a Top Ten Independent Film by the National Board of Review. Sheridan says he wrote the film to raise awareness of the high number of Indigenous women who are raped and murdered every year.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado

In the sequel to Sicario, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Sheridan served as the writer of the film once again. The 2018 film follows the drug war along the U.S.- Mexico border.

Without Remorse

Along with Will Staples, Sheridan wrote the 2021 film Without Remorse. The action thriller follows a Navy Seal who seeks revenge on the Russian hitman who killed his pregnant wife and unit members. The film is based on the 1993 novel of the same name by Tom Clancy.

Those Who Wish Me Dead

Sheridan served as the writer, director, and producer of the 2021 film Those Who Wish Me Dead. The film follows a boy who witnesses the murder of his father and goes on the run from the assassins. He joins a survival expert and the pair flee into the Montana wilderness.

Building upon the huge success of Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan is involved in creating three Yellowstone spin-off series.

Taylor Sheridan’s huge success and rise to fame have made him a highly desired director and actor. As such, he also has four other upcoming movies and TV series away from the Yellowstone universe.

Tulsa King

Tulsa King is an upcoming crime drama with Sheridan serving as the producer and creator. The show follows a Mafia capo who just got out of a 25-year prison sentence and is sent to Tulsa by his boss.

In Tulsa, he tries to set up a criminal organization where he knows no one. Tulsa King is set to premiere in November 2022 on Paramount+.

1932

Sheridan is the producer and creator of the upcoming series 1932, a prequel to Yellowstone, and a sequel to 1883.

1932 follows the Dutton family throughout the Prohibition era and the Great Depression, featuring John Dutton’s grandparents and parents. The show is set to premiere on Paramount+ in December 2022.

Land Man

Sheridan serves as the producer and creator for the upcoming series Land Man. The show is based on the podcast “Boomtown” about the oil boom in West Texas. Land Man does not have a release date yet.

Lioness

Sheridan is set to create and produce, alongside Nicole Kidman and Jill Wagner, the upcoming series Lioness.

Based on real stories, the show follows two U.S. agents working in an undercover female operative program. Lioness does not have a release date yet.

1883: The Bass Reaves Story

1883: The Bass Reaves Story is a spin-off series from 1883. It focuses on the legendary lawman Bass Reaves. Reaves, a real-life lawman, was the first black deputy of the U.S. Marshals to serve West of the Mississippi River.

Sheridan is the creator and producer of the show, which is set to release on Paramount+ sometime in 2023.

6666

Sheridan is the creator and producer of 6666, which is a spin-off of Yellowstone. The show will follow the story of the famed Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, a real-life ranch that is one of the biggest in America. There is no release date of 6666 yet.

Finestkind

Finestkind is an upcoming crime drama thriller, with Sheridan serving as one of the producers. The film centers around two brothers who were raised separately but are reunited as adults.

Together, they plan a deal with a Boston crime syndicate. Finestkind is set to premiere on Paramount+ in late 2022.
