Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Release Date, Plot Rumors, and More

As the dust settles on the gripping episodes of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 1, anticipation is building for the arrival of Part 2.

Will the Dutton family return to defend their ranch one final time? And what surprises does Taylor Sheridan have in store?

In this guide, we’ll delve into the release date, potential plot twists, rumors, cast, and more surrounding Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2.

Here’s everything we know so far about Yellowstone season 5 part 2.

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Release Date

The official release date for Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 is November 2023. However, there is speculation that the ongoing writers’ strike could impact this timeline.

Originally, Part 2 was scheduled to premiere in summer 2023, but production was delayed due to the strike. As of now, it is unclear if or how much the strike will affect the release date.

Will Kevin Costner Be In Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2?

It is not yet confirmed whether Kevin Costner will be in part 2 of Yellowstone season 5. There have been reports that he has left the show, but these reports have not been confirmed by Costner or the show’s creators.

According to Puck News, Costner is yet to give his nod to reprise his iconic role as John Dutton until he’s satisfied with how his character exits the popular franchise.

Taylor Sheridan, the show’s co-creator, expressed his take on the matter to THR. He admitted to being “disappointed” by Costner’s decision to step away from Yellowstone, while the actor shifts focus to his upcoming films, Horizon: An American Saga and its sequel.

Sheridan conveyed his unchanged admiration for Costner’s portrayal of John Dutton, stating how the two had never encountered issues that couldn’t be resolved over a phone call, until legal matters complicated things.

Sheridan went on to empathize with Costner, who he felt was unjustly shouldering the blame. He expressed hopes for Costner’s upcoming movie to be worth the shift of focus.

News broke in February that Yellowstone’s curtain call was decided after Costner proposed to film the remaining six episodes in a week, a request turned down by Paramount Network, according to Deadline. Instead, speculation is rife about a new Yellowstone spin-off starring Matthew McConaughey.

Puck News also brought attention to the ongoing debate over the filming schedule. Show executives suggest a shooting period ranging from 30 to 45 days, while Costner’s team is pushing for a more condensed timeline of one to three weeks.

It is possible that Costner will appear in a limited capacity in part 2, or that he will only appear in the final episode. However, it is also possible that he will not appear at all.

If Costner does not appear in part 2, it would be a major blow to the show. He is the star of Yellowstone, and his absence would be felt by fans. However, the show could continue without him, as it has a strong ensemble cast.

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Plot

The mid-season finale of season five left a lot at stake. It seems that there is plenty of drama and bloodshed yet to come in season five of Yellowstone.

Jamie Dutton is plotting to impeach his father John from his role as governor of Montana. He is conspiring with Market Equities to overthrow the Dutton dynasty.

In the meantime, Jamie is also sleeping with Sarah Atwood, a corporate shark from Market Equities.

Beth also learned that her father has been dumping the bodies of their enemies at the border of Montana (aka the train station) for years. With this new information, she hopes to take down her brother Jamie once and for all.

In addition to the threat of dealing with Jamie trying to impeach him, John has plenty of other troubles up his sleeve.

Thomas Rainwater has been after John about a pipeline while U.S. Fish and Wildlife Park officers are after him for the deaths of two endangered wolves.

John Dutton and Summer Higgins in Yellowstone TV Series

There is also the situation where the Duttons had to move their cattle to Texas as a bacterial disease called brucellosis threatened to wipe out the herd in Montana. This move may prove to be costly for the ranch but at the same time, it will likely mean that we will get to see more of Jimmy at 6666 Ranch.

“There’s a lot coming. Things are on the move. I can’t wait to get back to the back half just because I want to know what happens. I personally only know what happens up to the midseason finale up to that last second, and I don’t know what happens when we come back….” said Piper Perabo (who plays Summer Higgins) to TV Insider.

“I think you can tell that things are going really south,” she continues, “because [the seventh] episode doesn’t end at the fair; it ends with him practicing that speech. And Taylor’s very good – if you’re paying attention, he’s telling you where the trouble’s coming from. I think the fact that he ends with that scene is, for those paying attention, he’s showing you.”

Will There Be a Yellowstone Season 6?

It has recently been confirmed that Yellowstone will be ending after season 5 part 2, so there will be no season 6.

However, there is a new untitled sequel series coming in December 2023, with Matthew McConaughey expected to star.

In 2020, Sheridan told Deadline he would rather wrap Yellowstone up sooner than let the show lose its quality and edge.

“I know how the series ends, and you have to move in a straight line toward that end. You can’t walk in circles, waiting to get there, because the show will stagnate.”

“I don’t see this [Yellowstone] as a procedural show. So, it’s not something that we could extend indefinitely. I don’t think anyone would want to do that; you’d cheapen the product,” Sheridan added.

What Other Yellowstone Spin-offs Will There Be?

Though Yellowstone will be ending after season 5 part 2, there are several new shows set in the Yellowstone universe coming out.

The Yellowstone Universe is set to expand further in 2023 and 2024 with the release of 6666, Lawman: Bass Reeves (an 1883 spin-off), and a new untitled Yellowstone sequel series in December 2023 with Matthew McConaughey expected in star.

Lawman: Bass Reeves will follow the legendary story of the real-life lawman Bass Reeves. Reeves was the first black deputy of the U.S. Marshals to serve West of the Mississippi River.

6666 is set to follow a group of ranchers at the historic Four Sixes Ranch aka 6666 Ranch in Texas. There is talk that Yellowstone’s very own Jimmy Hurdstram and Walker may be a part of the series.

There is also the prequel series 1944 that was announced on February 5 by Tom Prince, the executive vice president of 101 Studios.

While fans are eager for Yellowstone spin-offs, the main Yellowstone series is still the one fans look forward to returning the most.

What Do We Know About The Yellowstone Sequel?

A Yellowstone sequel that will follow on after Yellowstone season 5 part 2. The Yellowstone sequel is a straight-to-series order that has not yet been named. It is set to premiere on Paramount+ in December 2023, following the conclusion of Yellowstone Season 5.

The sequel will be a further expansion of the Yellowstone universe, and will explore new characters and storylines within the Dutton family.

There is no confirmed cast for the sequel yet, but it is rumored that Matthew McConaughey will be starring. McConaughey is a two-time Academy Award winner, and his casting would be a major coup for the series.

The sequel is being written and executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone. Sheridan is also the creator of the Yellowstone prequel series 1883, which premiered on Paramount+ in December 2021.
